Indian Railways introducing driverless metro trains in Kolkata
Indian Railways Research Design and Standard Organization Director Yatish Kumar announced that they are expecting to run the driverless metro trains on the track in Kolkata city in the year of 2018 and may be from march month. This driverless metro train is under the grade of automation3, which was named as GoA 3.
The functionality of GoA 3 – the grade of automation are it can able to start and stop the train fully automated, but a person is required to operate gate opening and closing functionality of the train. For the design of the grade of automation – GoA 3 new rakes are required, so that they will import the new rakes from China. Then can able to use already present metro tracks in Kolkata city under the new East-West and Dum Dum Garia metro sections.
GoA 4 rakes model is also available, which can not only functionality of automated start and stop, it can also operate automated opening and closing of the train gates. The CII – Organized Manufacturing Excellence conference was conducted on Saturday, in this conference Indian railways director Yatish Kumar said that one rake is running on a trial basis and we will be expected to introduce this driverless metro train on the track in Kolkata city by the year of 2018.
